The Gift of Reiki
by Rev. Debbi Brown (this article appeared in "Arizona Together" - July 2000) Reiki
is a Japanese word meaning 'Universal life force energy'. It is the energy that animates all living things. This is the same energy that the Hindu's call Prana, the Chinese refer to as Chi, and others as
Manna, Divine love or
light. Reiki is an ancient system of healing, which involves the simple laying on of hands. The benefits are many. The casing of aches and pains, deep relaxation, peace of mind and balancing the body's energy centers.
Reiki helps the body to heal faster. Reiki is being used in the Hospice and nursing fields for the tremendous peace and relaxation it brings to the receiver. For anyone wanting to experience Reiki it is
recommended they find a qualified Reiki practitioner for a session. The sessions usually last about one hour. Clothing does not hamper Reiki energy; therefore the person receiving Reiki can remain dressed. Because Reiki is
spiritual energy and divine it will go where it is most needed. Usually the hands feel like mini heating pads. It's very soothing
and comforting. It can also detoxify the body as in massage so it's important to drink lots of
pure water after a Reiki session. Since it is so gentle there is no direct manipulation of the body it can be used on babies and very fragile people, such as the ill and elderly.
The Ease of Learning Anyone
interested in the laying on of hands can learn this beautiful healing art form. One if it's unique qualities is the ease in which Reiki is learned. It is passed from a Master-Teacher to the student via an attunement process. This
is a profound and relaxing experience in which your energy centers are opened and aligned with the flow of Reiki energy Reiki also has the potential to be miraculous. I have personally witnessed the healing of fibromyalgia,
hernia and chronic neck and shoulder pain. Learning Reiki is empowering and will enhance any spiritual practice.
